Patient Rights

The rights this hospital is audited against, written down so a patient can ask for them in print.

These are the rights a patient has at R.R. Healthcare. NABH accreditation requires them to be written down, displayed and honoured — so this page is the version we are held to, and the quality desk can be asked for it in print.

Before treatment

  • To be told plainly. What is wrong, what is proposed, what it costs, what can go wrong and what happens if you do nothing — in a language you understand, at a pace you can follow.
  • To consent, or refuse. Consent is given for a specific procedure by someone entitled to give it. You may refuse treatment, a test or an investigation; refusal of emergency care is documented, and care continues for everything else.
  • To a second opinion. Ask for it; it is not an insult to the consultant.
  • To know who is treating you. A consultant’s registration number can be checked with the medical council that issued it. This site does not print those numbers yet, so ask the desk for the number of the consultant you are seeing — a hospital that is confident of it will give it to you without being pressed.

During treatment

  • Emergency care without a deposit. A casualty patient is stabilised first; paperwork follows.
  • Privacy. Examination is screened, discussion is not held in a corridor, and a attendant is only present with the patient’s agreement.
  • No discrimination in admission, treatment or visiting on grounds of religion, caste, gender, disability, marital status, sexuality or ability to pay.
  • A named point of contact for the family during an inpatient stay, and a ward that tells you when something has changed.
  • To decline being photographed or filmed, including for anything that later appears on this website.

After treatment

  • An itemised bill and a receipt for every payment, before you leave.
  • A discharge summary as standard: diagnosis, procedures, medicines to continue, warning signs, and when to come back.
  • Your records. Reports, films and copies of the case file on request, and the right to ask for a correction to what is written in them.
  • A route for a complaint that gets recorded and answered, and the right to escalate it to the insurer, the licensing authority or the consumer forum without that changing how you are treated here.

Responsibilities, because care is a two-way process

  • Tell the truth about medicines, allergies, previous illness and previous treatment. A dose given against an undisclosed allergy is a hazard to you, not to us.
  • Ask when you do not understand. Nobody here minds repeating an explanation.
  • Follow the plan you agreed to, and bring your medicines and reports to the follow-up visit.
  • Respect staff and other patients. Abuse of a nurse at 2am is also how the next patient gets seen more slowly.
  • Keep visits to the number the ward allows — particularly ICU, NICU and labour ward.

To raise something: tell the nursing station first, then the administrator on duty at the reception desk. Ask for the complaint to be written down and for a reference number, and ask for the answer in writing.
